Violeta Sicilia

University of Zaragoza-ISQCH, Spain

Violeta Sicilia pursued her PhD studies in the group of Prof. J. Forniés at the University of Zaragoza (UZ). After, she took a post-doctoral stay in the group of Prof. M. Chisholm at Indiana University (USA). Then, she returned to the UZ in 1991, becoming a permanent staff member in 1995 and Full Professor in 2022. From the beginning of her career, she has balanced teaching and research work, as reflected by the direction of 5 Doctoral Thesis and more than 40 final degree and master thesis students.

Her research interests are focused on the design and development of light-active platinum complexes bearing cyclometalated N-heterocyclic carbenes and/or imines for application in optics, energy and sensing. Some of them able to be used as electronic nose for H2O(g) detection (Inorg. Chem. 2008, 47, 7166) or for real-time and naked eye selective detection of Hg2+ in water (Dalton Trans. 2015, 44, 6936). Her more recent activities are centered on active phosphorescent materials for energy-saving light-emitting devices (Chem. Eur. J. 2015, 21, 1620, Applied Materials & Interfaces 2016, 8, 16160; Inorg. Chem. 2017, 56, 4829; J. Mater. Chem, C, 2019, 7, 4509; Inorg. Chem. 2020, 59, 1145; J. Mater. Chem, C, 2022, 10, 15491).

She was appointed as Technical Advisor to the Dirección General de Investigación, Innovación y Desarrollo del Gobierno de Aragón and since 2020, is leader of the group "Química Inorgánica y de los Compuestos Organometálicos" E17_23R.
